The Automotive Engineering program at Clemson University, administered through the Department of Mechanical Engineering, offers the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in automotive engineering. Enrollment in the M.S. and Ph.D. programs is open to students with degrees in any branch of engineering, any applied sciences or mathematics. To be eligible for admission, the program requires students to have either two years of post-BS, industry experience or a M.S. degree. There are, however, certain exceptions made for highly qualified applicants. Please contact the Graduate Coordinator, Dr. Mohammed Omar for more information.
After being accepted, students might be offered financial support as Graduate Research Assistants (GRA) or Teaching Assistants (TA). M.S. students might be hired as TAs, while a GRA is hired by a professor to work on that professor’s research project and assist in related duties. GRA positions are only available for Ph.D. students. Additionally, all accepted MS students will be considered for available fellowships.
Students with graduate research assistantships enroll for nine hours each semester (typically two courses in addition to credit received for research). M.S. students should enroll for 12 credit hours for three semesters and attend an intentional internship their fourth semester.
Application packages from U.S. citizens and internationals should be submitted by Feb. 15 for the fall and Sept. 15 for the spring to be considered favorable for an assistantship. Admission to the M.S. program is limited to the fall semester only. Assistantships are limited and awarded on a highly competitive basis. Please go to the Graduate School Application page to apply.
